Waiting for…

Donnerstag, 19. Mai 2011

… a microphone and a cheap 9.5u multieffect. I hope that the microphone will help me especially when recording in the field. This excellent article about field recording gear by Tim Prebble inspired me to hunt down a shotgun microphone. Tim’s blog is worth reading, be sure not to miss it!
The 9.5u multieffect is needed for my ongoing development of a live performance setup. I need reverb, lots of it, but not necessarily of high quality, but rather for forming texture. I’ll try this out at the Happy Knobbing next month, where I’ll play a short piece on saturday evening and post a recording of it here in this blog.

Frostwave Fat Controller

Samstag, 23. April 2011

I got my newly purchased Frostwave Fat Controller and set up a little demo. This 2×8 step sequencer is surely nothing for complex musical writings, but rather for nice small basslines and modulation sequences. It plays a little acid tune together with the MPC1000 and my modular system. No filters were used – only wave morphing on the MOTM E-350 morphing terrarium.

that’s the title of my EP. As you have seen, I’ve been working on this for weeks. Although it’s not finished yet, I can present you some results today. Have a look at the artwork:

And have a listen to a preview of the songs on soundcloud.

Stephen Vitiello documentary

Sonntag, 6. März 2011

This movie about Stephen Vitiello, a sound designer and musician working with top-class labels like 12k, is simply awesome. Stephen was filmed while doing recordings in the australian wildlife. His view on things, and certainly his ear on things, opens a totally new perspective for me.

By the way, Stephen Vitiellos latest release MOSS (with Molly Berg, Olivia Block and Steve Roden) is out on 12k.

Reykjavik, IS

Mittwoch, 26. Januar 2011

Remember that I was in Iceland two years ago? Doing Fieldrecordings and relaxing with their delicious food and in their outstanding landscape.
I already posted some recordings from the Tjörnin Lake some time ago. However I needed some more sounds in Soundcloud for a different project, so why not sharing them here?

Modular Diary 1

Sonntag, 16. Januar 2011

Inspired by this Modular Diary Thread I’ll name all modular sound blogposts also modular diary from now on. I’m posting lot’s of modular stuff anyway, so why not reflect this in the headline?

This sound is made with the MOTM E350 Morphing Terrarium and the Makenoise Maths and Wogglebug. The Wogglebug is synced to the Maths. Wogglebug’s random triggers sync a digital delay which produces the “glitches” effects.

Modular System in The Wire Magazine

Montag, 10. Januar 2011

I found this one in the latest wire magazine:

The Wire

Page 16

An article about Lichens, the alter ego of the vocalist Rob Lowe.

In his eurorack, I do recognize two Harvestman modules (one being a piston honda wavetable oscillator) and a make noise maths. For sure there’s some doepfer, but i don’t recognize the modules exactly. Do you?

ab-arts.de site relaunch

Freitag, 7. Januar 2011

Today is a great day. I worked on a relaunch of ab-arts.de during the Christmas holidays, and while the site itself was not actually “down”, I had spent most of the time changing the design. It’s much clearer and brighter now. Also, I’m on soundcloud now. And I’m on Flickr too. This is mainly due to my newly bought camera, an Olympus E-P1.
Hopefully all this web 2.0 thingy helps me to blog more… Anyway – let’s celebrate the restart with a bit of fireworks!

New Year’s Present

Samstag, 1. Januar 2011

I did not blog anything lately, so I thought the new year’s eve might be the perfect time to post again. An old song, in which a Casio Keyboard has a date with a modular system.

Microwave2 Wavetable Synthesis

Sonntag, 31. Oktober 2010

Busy busy busy, two months without blogging.
Anyway – you remember the Arduino Wavetable Synthesis post from earlier this year? I recently found this sound from the Waldorf Microwave 2, which sounds similar (bit higher quality, though…).
